My maternal side of the family includes several educators, while my father’s family has several entrepreneurs and business enthusiasts. With lineage in both, I struggled with the path I should take. In the fall of 2011, after graduating with a degree in entrepreneurship, I taught youth in the Saint Paul community. I was then presented with an opportunity to use my business mind and my heart for education. Joining the Paradigm team was a perfect match because the opportunity allowed me to develop educational solutions for teachers and students.
Through my participation in educational development, I have gained perspective on the challenges and needs in education. From juggling different types of learners to always being ready for anything to providing a never-ending compassion, teachers truly have the skills to compete with any career.
In my career journey, I have personally discovered what it takes to be a businesswoman and an educator. Hands-on experience with developing and delivering educational solutions both in the classroom and within Paradigm has taught me that these eight, cross-related skills are essential for succeeding in both roles:
- Active listening
- Confidence
- Curiosity
- Creativity
- Critical thinking
- Strategic planning
- Strong communication
- Leadership
